The Sydney University Lions Women played their inaugural season in 2018, and were crowned Opal Bowl VI champions.
The team is made up of rookies and veterans, with some players participating in Gridiron NSW competition since the establishment of the Women’s league in 2013.
In 2025, the Women’s league changed from Tackle to Flag.
The Lionesses pre-season starts in June each year, with the season running from September – December.
